OSHA is inviting public comments on a new rule which would enshrine workers' right to have a representative they trust accompany OSHA’s investigator during an inspection. We need YOU to comment to make it even stronger!
Workers need to feel safe and confident speaking up during health and safety investigations. This is challenging for many workers: especially those who are most likely to be met with discrimination, intimidation, and retaliation from bosses when they speak up, and workers with whom OSHA staff are not linguistically or culturally equipped to support.
We know when workers are accompanied by a trusted community, labor, or legal representative, they can more easily overcome these barriers to give OSHA the information it needs for a comprehensive inspection.
Submit a comment urging OSHA to allow workers to choose their OSHA inspection representative. NOTE: IT'S CRITICAL YOU CUSTOMIZE THE SAMPLE COMMENT FORM TO THE RIGHT. Draw from personal, real-life experiences to emphasize why this matters. For example, was there a time when you or a co-worker were afraid to speak up during an inspection, or couldn't speak up because the OSHA investigator didn't speak your preferred language?
